Mark Lee, PhD is Associate Professor of Biology at Spelman College. There, he teaches Cell Biology, Biological Chemistry, and Explorations of Neuroscience. As a science educator and related researcher, Dr. Lee has been instrumental in leading three large campus wide education reform initiatives that involve all STEM departments. In the national picture of STEM education reform, he is a member of the Partnership for Undergraduate Life Sciences Education (PULSE), the National Institutes for Scientific Teaching (NIST) and the National Academies Roundtable on Systemic Change in Undergraduate STEM Education. His current work is funded to study factors supporting persistence of African American women in STEM majors and careers using Embeddedness Career Theory. Outside of his professional science identity, Dr. Lee is a visual artist in the medium of digital filmmaking. In that regard, he is a Fellow of the Spelman Center of Excellence where he highlights research focused on the Spelman contribution to Black Women Excellence in STEM using visual storytelling.
