Associate Director for Global Education
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Chapel HIll, North Carolina, United States
Sharmila Udyavar is a highly experienced international educator. She strongly believes that global learning has to be a key part of education at all levels. In her current role, Sharmila oversees "internationalization at home" through the curriculum and cocurriculum. To incorporate global learning in the curriculum, she mobilizes various forms of virtual exchange, including Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) on her campus. She is looking to scale COIL broadly by building a robust infrastructure of stakeholders that will support an organic growth of COIL at all levels. She also presents on COIL at various forums for internal and external partners. The Diplomacy Initiative is a newer initiative at Carolina and Sharmila has been involved in supporting the growth and structuring of this initiative that leverages both curriculum and cocurriculum to deliver global learning to students. In her personal life, Sharmila is passionate about food and travel and hopes to combine these interests and organize food tours to India in her post-career life.
